Abstract

A review of voucher specimens belonging to the Family Leucosiidae available at different reference museums and collections in Venezuela was conducted in order to improve our knowledge of this family in the country. A total of 8 genera and 12 species (Acanthilia intermedia, Callidactylus asper, Ebalia cariosa, Iliacantha liodactylus, I. sparsa, Myropsis quinquespinosa, Persephona mediterranea, P. punctata, P. lichtensteinii, P. towsendi, Speloeophorus pontifer and Uhlias limbatus) was found. Iliacantha liodactylus and Persephona lichtensteinii were the most common species in the studied collections. Persephona finneganae and P. lichtensteinii, are considered synonyms of P. aquinolaris and P. mediterranea, respectively. The presence of Persephona townsendi in Venezuelan Caribbean waters is confirmed. We found no specimens of Persephona crinita or Iliacantha subglobosa in our review but included both of them in this account given reliable records.
