Abstract

In this paper, information about granulometric composition, organic matter and heavy metals concentrations at three stations from La Restinga lagoon is provided, granulometric analysis showed dominance of medium particles sand. High levels of organic matter and carbonates could be related to the presence of Thalassia testudinum, macroalgae benthic and mangrove roots well developed in all seasons. These systems have been recognized as habitat for a large number of organisms, mainly molluscs and echinoderms, which they are largely an important source of calcium intake to sediment. The concentrations of Pb total were between 27.97 and 48.55 mg/kg; and Cu total concentrations were between 5.19 and 67.9 mg/kg. The values of these two metals are above normal levels. However, these specific results could be a transient alteration. Concentrations of all other analysed metals (Cd, Zn, Fe) were found within normal values.
